NDMES does not have a pond or any real access to one, and with the limited interest in model boats in Australia it is little wonder that few members take an interest in modelling ships and boats. Out of a membership of 80 odd only probably three members at most have an interest in this area.
In the UK and Europe the interest in this hobby is enormous with large clubs and regattas happening in many places throughout the year. In Perth, the Australian Model Ship Society is one of only a few clubs in WA and they are fairly active with Sunday sailings on the Ranford Rd Lake and regular displays around Perth. Task Force 72 is another club – Australia wide – in which the members model mainly warships to a common scale.
